Nathalie Stern spiller på 1000fryd

“Born and raised in Sweden, Nathalie Stern grew up with a mixture of musical influences ranging from folk music to punk rock. After five years in pop-punk outfit Candysuck, a band that influenced young women across the country to start their own bands (for example Sahara Hotnights) Nathalie moved to Newcastle, England, in 1998. Here, she started the band Lake Me, a minimalist guitar and drums duo with powerful vocals that became an established band on the indie-rock scene in the UK with tours across Europe and North America.

In 2005, Nathalie began exploring the old folk songs she had sung at school and started writing her own material with a focus on vocals and harmonies. Using a loop pedal to layer voice and guitar, Nathalie draws references from Iron and Wine, Bon Iver and Feist. Described as a ?one woman choir?, her unique sound has created a buzz among gig goers and music aficionados alike. Although Nathalie?s music may be categorised as folk, it has elements of pop, blues and even glitch. Her diversity is proven by the roster of bands she has shared the stage with such as Daniel (A.I.U) Higgs of Lungfish, Thomas Truax, Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele, Field Music, High Places and Des Ark. She welcomes opportunities to incorporate other aspects of art and media in her performances; one of the highlights was a show supported by a programme of experimental film shorts influenced by her music and made by local film makers.

Nathalie released her debut album ?Firetales? in December 2009. It contains nine original tracks and one reinterpreted version of a traditional song, normally sung before Christmas in Sweden. The album was released by The Company With The Golden Arm and through Nathalie’s own label Minta Rec. The name of the album is an apt representation of the songs which capture the essence of fairytales and that sparkle like fire.”
